It may sound surprising, but a bread knife is actually the perfect tool for cutting soft and juicy fruits and vegetables, like tomatoes.

A Santoku knife is a Japanese style of knife that has hollow depressions along the edge which prevent food from sticking to the knife. Quite often when you are chopping vegetables with a chef’s knife, the slices will then stick to the blade afterwards, but this is not so much of a problem with a Santoku knife.
If this is something that tends to bother you when preparing vegetables, then you might want to think about investing in a Santoku knife as well as a good chef’s knife. A Santoku knife is great for many of the same tasks such as dicing, slicing, mincing and chopping.
You will probably still find yourself reaching for your chef’s knife a lot, especially if you are cutting through something hard, but the two together are a great team when it comes to preparing vegetables.
